Dell Chooses Joyent Software to Power Cloud Computing

San Francisco, CA (March 24, 2010) — Joyent, a pioneer in cloud computing technology, announced today that Dell has selected Joyent’s software to power on-premise cloud computing deployment for the company’s new Dell Cloud Computing Solution for Web Applications.

The arrangement marks the first instance of Joyent software being integrated within a third-party solution and represents a critical turning point in the industry with a single software platform enabling public, private, and hybrid cloud solutions. The new solution will allow organizations to deploy a private cloud on-premise within their organization using Joyent software.

This solution complements existing public clouds built on Joyent software that host thousands of popular websites, delivering billions of page views to millions of active users every month. The new Dell private cloud solution will provide customers with greater flexibility in their deployment options while still delivering the cost effectiveness and performance that have been established on the Joyent public cloud.

“Joyent is excited to be working with Dell to deliver the Dell Cloud Solution for Web Applications,” said David Young, CEO of Joyent. “Joyent’s expertise in scalable software architectures combined with Dell’s hardware and services are allowing for unmatched flexibility in deployment options to meet the security, control and integration requirements of leading enterprises.”

Applications running on Joyent software automatically use CPU bursting to enable seamless vertical scale for applications and deliver unprecedented hardware utilization. Network operators use simple GUI tools to create and manage complex virtual architectures within the Joyent’s software, allowing for rapid horizontal scaling to mach the needs of dynamic business requirements.

“Along with Dell DCS services and hardware, we chose to incorporate Joyent software because it provides a proven architecture for scaling Web applications,” said Forrest Norrod, General Manager for Server Platforms at Dell. “The Dell Cloud Solution for Web Applications allows Web applications to take advantage of the full power of the new Dell PowerEdge C servers to maximize efficiency and return on investment.”
