The Tiburon Triathlon on Sunday, July 31st is in its twentieth year, and the minimal distances and maximum focus on having fun makes it a great event for folks who are new to the sport. The swim is only up to half a mile in a sheltered harbor -- and you can turn around any time you like -- followed by a nine mile bike ride and a two mile run. If you know how to swim and bike, and can jog your way through a 10K, you can totally finish this!
This year, Team Joyent is getting together to participate and we thought we'd invite along anyone else who'd like to join us. And you don't even have to get wet. Really.
If you'd like to participate in the actual event, that's awesome! Make sure to register at Active.com soon as an individual or a relay team, as the organizers have promised to close the event around the middle of the month or if it sells out, whichever comes first. Then RSVP on our Facebook event page and leave a note on the wall letting us know you're registered.
Tailgating and Cheerleading
If you don't want to get wet but do want to hang out with a bunch of Joyeurs, then just join us for bagels and coffee on race day at Belvedere Park. The race officially starts at 7:30am, the first folks should start crossing the finish line around 8:15am and the whole thing should be done by 10:00am, after which we'll be getting together for brunch at one of Tiburon's popular restaurants.
For more information, or to let us know you'll be participating, visit our Facebook event page. We'll also be organizing a casual group swim or two at Aquatic Park in San Francisco before the event if you want to get used to the water -- and would be happy to help you find a wetsuit or organize a swim buddy to stick with you on race day if that helps. Hope to see you there!
