Preceded by drinks and refreshments, the Hack Deploy Scale speaker series is honored and excited to present Dave Pacheco, Node.js and distributed system wizard. Dave has worked on Node.js observability in production and led the development of Joyent's Cloud Analytics service for visualizing distributed software performance. At Sun he worked on Sun Storage 7000 appliances, including ZFS-based remote replication, fault management, and kernel flash device support.
In this talk, Dave will discuss tools and techniques for operating Node.js in production, including dynamic tracing, runtime profiling, and postmortem debugging. Together with tools for analyzing processes and crashes across the cloud, these techniques help us to fully root-cause problems soon after first seeing them in production. We'll also cover development techniques that make programs easier to debug once they're running in production. And since tools and techniques are only as good as the real-life problems they help solve, Dave will cover several examples from my experience on the team operating Joyent's Manta Storage Service.
