Joyent Supports hi5 and Open Social
MARIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA – March 13, 2008: Expands Social Networking partnerships by providing free Accelerators optimized for the Open Social platform.

Workspace
The Workspace is a place where you can view selected groups (list view) from any application:
Notifications
The Notifications group is where you can view notifications sent to you from other users in your Connector.
Recent Comments
Recent Comments lets you see what items users in your Connector have commented on recently.
Example
You have been using the Connector and have tagged “jill” and “party” in more than one application, and you would like to be able to view those items in one place instead of going to each application every time you need to access that information. You can add a Smart Group to Connect that will collect all items tagged “jill” and “party” across all applications on the Connector.

Connector provides a free email address for each Connector user.
If you are a Corel Lightning user, you selected a username when you registered for online services. This username is the basis for your Connector email address, which takes the form of username@yourdomain.joyent.net. You can immediately begin sending and receiving email with this account. When you create new users with whom to share information in your Connector, they will be given their own email addresses based on their username.
Spam protection is provided by our Ironport spam protection hardware.
When sending messages, you can attach new files directly from your computer, and existing files you have previously added to the Files application.
Example
Email is a great way to keep in touch with people. You are planning a party for your friend Jill. Since many of your friends have email addresses, you can use email to send out invitations and receive RSVP’s for Jill’s party.

Calendars are used to organize your schedule, and also when working with other people to arrange meetings, schedule events (such as parties), and plan ahead.
Example
Jill’s party is in three weeks and you want to put it on your calendar so you don’t forget, and can plan for it. You create the event in Calendar, and move it into a group containing related events, such as Upcoming Events or Jill’s Party. If you already have set it up in a different calendaring software (see below), you can import the event into your Connector calendar. If you are sharing with other users, you can invite them to the event, and they can copy it to their own calendar.

People is a contact management application that allows you to organize information about friends and contacts so you have them at your fingertips. Sort of like a personal phone book, but so much more.
It is also where you (the account owner or administrator) manage the other users on your ‘team’. People often have one group of contacts on their home computer, rolodex or address book, and another set at the office. These may have overlapping or contradictory information. With an online contact manager like Connector’s People application, your personal and business contacts are accessible to you from (almost) anywhere, and help you to have a single set of up-to-date contact information.
If you already have contact information in another software application, it’s easy to import that information into Connector. The data needs to be saved or exported from your current contact management application, to the widely used vcard format (.vcf). A vcard can contain an individual contact, or a group of contacts. So you could export your entire set of contacts to one vcard file. See the supporting documentation for your other application for information on how to do this.
Example
Not everyone who is going to Jill’s party has an account in your Connector. You can still keep their contact information in Connector. You have about 12 people in your Address book that you want to invite. By importing their vCards, you can add them to your contact list.

Files is a place for online storage, backup, and sharing of documents, images, and other kinds of files. You can upload up to five files at once, and specify the groups you want them placed in.
There is no size limit on files uploaded to your Connector (however email attachments, do have a 20MB size limit).
Example
You have been hard at work compiling a list of possible gifts for Jill and realize everyone coming to the party could use a copy of it. You upload the file to your Connector and share it with everyone in your group of Connector users and email it to everyone else.

Bookmarks allows you to store important or interesting Web sites. You can also share your bookmarks with other Connector users within your organization (or family, team, etc).
The Bookmarks application serves the same purpose as browser- based bookmarks or favorites. The purpose is to store Web addresses that you use frequently, for easy access, and to store the location of websites to which you may want to return to. This gives you access to your bookmarks from any Web browser.
Bookmarking Web pages in the Connector allows you to make bookmarks part of your workflow and collaboration. The application includes a bookmarklet that makes it easy to bookmark Web pages and save them to your Connector. Just click the Tools control and follow the directions there for installing and using the bookmarklet.
Example
You have found some great deals online for some of the items on Jill’s gift list. Using Bookmarks you save the url for the websites you found and share those with your group of Connector users.

Lists is the newest application to join our Connector suite of productivity applications. It’s a flexible list and outline maker that you can use to organize your thoughts, your TO DOs, a big project.
You can create hierarchies of items and sub-items, and expand or collapse different parts of your outline. Each column can contain one of four types of data: text, checkboxes, dates, and numbers.
Example
Planning for a party can get tedious. Having a to-do list would be great. Using Lists you create a to-do list custom-tailored for your party. You can even share the list with people in your group of Connector users so they can help take care of some of the items in your list.
