Joyent Supports hi5 and Open Social
MARIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA – March 13, 2008: Expands Social Networking partnerships by providing free Accelerators optimized for the Open Social platform.
There are four kinds of groups in Joyent Connector: Default Groups, Standard Groups, Smart Groups, and Others’ Groups. This variety is useful to you because it allows you to easily and flexibly organize, retrieve, and share your information.
These groups are built into the Joyent Connector, and cannot be deleted. Each application includes a Notifications group, as well as one or more default groups containing the users items. For instance, Mail has an Inbox, Calendar has a Main Calendar default group, People includes Contacts and Users, and the Files application has default Documents and Strongspace groups. In addition to their use in organizing your items, the default groups are primarily used for sharing information between users.
Standard Groups act like standard folders do in many familiar software platforms and applications. The user manually moves or copies items into or out of these groups, and moves the groups within the hierarchy. Unlike the default groups, the user must create these groups.
Smart Groups are a very powerful way of organizing and using your data. Unlike standard Groups, users do not manually move or copy items into them. Items are automatically placed in smart groups based on user-specified tags and special conditions. Smart groups are dynamic, their contents update automatically.
Note: You can distinguish between standard and smart groups by the distinctive purple color and gear overlay of smart group icons.
The ability to share information (and to place limits on that sharing) is a key element in the Connector approach. You can view other user’s Groups (default groups, standard groups, and smart groups), so long as the group is public. Users can restrict access to any group so that they cannot be viewed and modified by all or some other users. This feature is discussed in more detail in the collaboration section of the user guide.
