Senior Network Engineer/Architect

Joyent is currently seeking a Senior Network Engineer / Architect to help design and scale its global data center (US, EU and Asia) and network for all Joyent public and private cloud. We are looking for an individual who is an expert with Network Engineering and Operations. In this role you will provide high-level technical guidance to Joyent’s network build and operations teams, and lead people and projects. As a Senior Network Engineer / Architect you will provide the vision and implementation roadmap into evolving network technologies including large-scale data center network with CLOS topology, Software Defined Networking (SDN), Software Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN), and other emergent areas.

Responsibilities

  • Design, Implement and Operate Joyent Cloud Networks
  • Define Standard Network / Security Operating Process & Procedures
  • Provide Technical Guidance, Oversight and Training for Net. & Security resources in Operations Center
  • Capacity Planning of Network Resources

Qualifications

  • 10+ years Network Engineering and Operations (Large-scale data center experience preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience designing and planning large-scale date center network and WAN
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others
  • Hands on experience with routers and data center switches (Cisco, or others)
  • Deep knowledge of industry trends and impacts on network design, architecture, planning and build
  • Knowledge on Routing Protocols (BGP/OSPF/ECMP), Switching Protocols (STP/VLAN/VPN/MPLS), IP Networking (IPv4 and IPv6, ICMP, ARP), and Network QoS and Security (ACL, Firewalls, QoS).
  • In depth knowledge with major networking vendors: Juniper, Cisco, Arista, FTOS, Arbor, Barracuda, Citrix

Skills & Experience

  • Experience with either design and implementation, or operation of, large-scale enterprise deployments of network security infrastructures using a continuous improvement methodology while enforcing compliance standards
  • Expert with OSPF and BGP traffic engineering and network optimization
  • Experience interacting with tier-1 ISP vendors and IX (Internet eXchange) peering
  • Experience with Network and Security Solution Design and Deployments (IDS/IPS, Firewalls, Load Balancers, and WAFs)
  • Experience working in Linux or Unix operating systems
  • Experience with network monitoring tools such as OpenNMS, Rancid, Cacti, and so on

Additional Preferred Knowledge

  • Enterprise level experience within high-growth technology organizations
  • Cisco Certifications for data center or related equivalent certifications
  • Juniper Certifications for data center, service provider, or related equivalent certifications
  • Programming experience in python, Perl or other languages desirable
  • Implementation experience with S/W-defined DataCenter (SDDC) technologies including Software-defined Networking (SDN) and Software-defined Wide Area Networks (SD-WAN)
  • Senior level experience interacting directly with software development engineers
