We are looking for linux experts who love to solve scalability problems—software engineers who have a strong technical background in linux internals, scheduling, memory allocation, and EXT/XFS file systems in distributed, collocated, and remote environments. Engineers at Joyent play many roles and we value a willingness to learn new skills quickly.
You will focus on linux issues within Joyent’s Storage Team. We have a large storage service at worldwide scale. As such, you should have practical experience with the many concerns that arise with individual machines, as well as the management of thousands of machines distributed among multiple datacenters around the world. You will design and implement algorithms for complex storage systems, bringing your linux expertise to the table and help the team integrate existing open-source solutions with Joyent’s software.
At least one year of professional work experience for the junior level, and five years for the senior level.

Joyent is remote-friendly (US, Canada, EU, South Korea) and has a highly distributed engineering team. We are currently entirely remote due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but in normal times a few engineers prefer being physically present in our San Francisco office. We are seeking candidates who would like to work in the San Francisco area, New York City area, or remotely, and who can travel at least twice a year to meet with other members of the engineering team.
