Salesforce and Heroku: The Dork-Side of the Force?

There has certainly been a lot of chatter around SalesForce's acquisition of Heroku for $212 million last week, and it certainly didn't fall on deaf ears here at Joyent headquarters.

While naturally highly biased, my favorite commentary so far was James Governor's thoughts from Enterprise Irregulars:

Heroku is currently spreading its wings, or should I say expanding the portfolio by looking to address the staggering opportunity around serverside Javascript in the shape of node.js. Why should you care about node.js? Because every developer in SF is currently going mental for it – its the emerging language for network services and services. Now interestingly enough Joyent recently acquired node.js outright, and its lead developer Ryan Dahl. Salesforce.com probably just added $150m to Joyent’s market value... But for now Heroku is all about the Rails.
Sounds good to us! We love node.js and while there's certainly a lot of value in improving business software, we're pretty sure node is much bigger than just that. Check out the official preview for Flower, a Playstation 3 title developed by That Game Co, who are big fans of Node.
