Voxeo Labs Adds Telco APIs and Mobile VoIP to Joyent’s Global Cloud Network

Voxeo Labs, a San Francisco-based technology company leading the industry in real-time carrier APIs, today announced that it has joined the Global Cloud Network (GCN); an alliance of mobile carriers who run their cloud on Joyent’s SmartDataCenter fabric. In joining the GCN, Voxeo Labs is helping to deliver the world’s first Mobile PaaS.

Voxeo Labs exposes communication APIs as standalone infrastructure for Mobile OTTs looking to become Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) or as a complement to existing IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and network API strategies of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). With this announcement, Voxeo Labs is making its entire suite of products available to the GCN, enabling carrier members to build real-time mobile services and attract innovation from a growing ecosystem of developers using Voxeo Labs technologies.

Progressive carriers like Deutsche Telekom have understood the need to expose their networks through this type of innovation. For example, the recently launched Telekom Tropo API is built on Voxeo Labs technologies – giving web and mobile developers access to lucrative new geographies in partnership with an industry giant.

“We’re delighted to offer this turnkey solution to members of the GCN. The ability to auto-scale Mobile VoIP infrastructure creates a unique competitive advantage for carriers around the world including Mobile First markets,” said Jose de Castro, CTO, Voxeo Labs.

Joyent selected Voxeo Labs as the exclusive Telco API technology provider for the GCN, given that the Voxeo Labs platform is the only solution that effectively exposes the carrier network to the global community of developers. This unique advantage delivers great opportunity to the Mobile First carrier markets, allowing carriers to extend services to the feature phone that had only been available on smart phones before.

"Voxeo Labs is leading the market in carrier network exposure and allowing those carriers to quickly enable rich media services on the GCN. This is a powerful combination that gives Mobile OTTs and Mobile First carriers a huge advantage," said Jason Hoffman, founder and CTO, Joyent.“Carriers have invested billions in their network, but that value is locked for third party developers and even for the carrier’s developer organizations. Our platform unlocks the network’s value by exposing APIs on the core network and enabling developers to monetize their ideas. While other vendors are contemplating how they want to enter this space, we are blazing the trail with compelling solutions to satisfy the demand in the market,” said Jason Goecke, President, Voxeo Labs.

“We selected Voxeo Labs because of their clear industry thought leadership and their ability to execute. Not only have the delivered a compelling technology platform, but they also are leaders in key industry initiatives like WebRTC,” says Jim Blom, VP of the GCN and Mobile First Markets, Joyent.
