Senior Network Automation Architect

Job Summary

The Network Automation Architect is responsible for designing and supporting all tools necessary to manage and monitor the Joyent network infrastructure. 

Job Responsibilities

Monitoring and Alerting Architecture

  • Design, build, and evolve a unified event management platform leveraging microservices on Kubernetes.

  • Integrate network telemetry and events into a shared Kafka pipeline.

  • Lead initiatives to enrich events in-flight and improve signal quality.

  • Partner with stakeholders to evaluate and introduce AI/ML-driven approaches for enhanced network visibility and anomaly detection.

Automation Tooling

  • Maintain and extend existing Python- and Go-based network discovery and automation tools.

  • Ensure tools are production-grade, well-documented, and operationally supportable.

  • Establish standards and best practices for automation development and usage.

  • Enable network engineering teams through documentation, training, and hands-on guidance.

Auditing and Health Checking

  • Design and implement network health and availability metrics using InfluxDB and Grafana.

  • Define measurable health indicators for devices, services, and end-to-end network paths.

  • Build compliance and auditing mechanisms that compare expected vs. actual configuration and operational state.

  • Improve observability, drift detection, and long-term reporting across the network estate.

Evangelism and Education

  • Act as a technical evangelist for network automation and observability frameworks.

  • Clearly document workflows, frameworks, and operational procedures.

  • Periodically present tool capabilities, benefits, and roadmaps to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Communicate effectively with US-based teams and senior/executive leadership in Korea, adapting communication style as appropriate.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong background in network operations and network engineering

  • Proven experience designing and operating network automation systems at scale

  • Proficiency in Python and Go

  • Solid understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architectures

  • Hands-on experience with:

    • Kafka

    • Kubernetes

    • InfluxDB and Grafana

    • Telegraf, Syslog, Logstash, Filebeat

    • CoreDNS

  • Experience defining network health, availability, and compliance metrics

  • Ability to translate operational needs into scalable automation solutions

  • Strong documentation, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills

  • Cultural awareness and ability to work effectively with senior and executive management in Korea

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)

  • 8+ years of experience in network engineering and/or network operations

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in network automation, observability, or platform engineering

  • Experience operating and supporting production systems in complex, multi-team environments

  • Prior experience working with international stakeholders or leadership teams strongly preferred

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this position will vary among specific regions due to geographical differentials in the labor market, and actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills, experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.  Therefore, the annual base compensation range for this role (depending on the geographical location) is expected to be between $153000 to $209000.

Regular full-time employees (salaried or hourly) have access to benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 401(k), Employee Purchase Program, Vacation and Sick leave, electronic reimbursement and many more. In addition, regular full-time employees (salaried or hourly) are eligible for bonus compensation based on individual, department, and company performance.
